John 15 “Bearing Fruit”

John 15:1-17.

The True Vine

Jesus is the vine! Why is this significant?

Jeremiah 2:20-22.

Isaiah 5:1-7.

Jesus is the true Son!

Ex 4:22.

v2 Every branch in me..

Matt 3:10.

2 Peter 1:8.

These are those who proclaim Christ, who say the are in Him, but the lack of fruit proves they are not His.

Mat 7:21-23.

That word know denotes intimacy..

But those who are His HE PRUNES so that we may bear more fruit!

Sanctification! It’s a process, at times it’s painful. But there must be a CUTTING AWAY for you to bear more fruit!

v3 how do you know who the true branches are? Those who believe His Word, and produce fruit that evidences a relationship!

Eph 5:25-26.

You are made clean by Christ and Christ alone!

Abide

v4-10

We cannot bear fruit unless we are abiding in Him.

Abide means “to continue to exist, to remain”

If you’re lacking fruit, you’re not continuing in HIM

John 8:31-32. - the mark of a true disciple.

If you are abiding, your fruit will be abundant. - therefore we know that those in v2 are not people who lost their salvation, they were never connected to the vine!

Col 1:5-6.

Apart from Him we can do NOTHING! Anything you try to do outside of HIM will fail. So how can we be so arrogant to think we don’t need to be in God’s word? If we can do NOTHING without Him?

There is great reward in ABIDING! v7

IF you abide in Him AND HIS WORDS ABIDE IN YOU! ASK WHAT YOU WISH!

John 14:13.

1 John 5:14-15. - the balance

V 8God is glorified when we abide in Christ, receive answered prayer, and bear fruit, which PROVES WE ARE HIS DISCIPLES!

NO FRUIT=NOT A DISCIPLE

V9 - JESUS LOVES US AS MUCH AS THE FATHER LOVES HIM

first we must see the key to bearing fruit is ABIDING IN HIS LOVE! SEE HOW MUCH HE LOVES YOU!

1 JOHN 4:9-10, 16.

V10 - OBEDIENCE KEEPS US ABIDING IN LOVE

JOHN 14:15.

Obedience doesn’t earn us His love, we obey BECAUSE of His love, and now our love for Him.

v11 - Abiding brings you JOY

The Command

v 12 - John 13:34.

v 13. THIS IS LOVE

V14 - WANT TO BE A FRIEND OF GOD LIKE ABRAHAM?

MATT 12:50.

V 15 - WE ARE CLOSER THAN JUST NOW SERVANTS, WE ARE INTIMATE WITH HIM!

BUT STILL WE ARE SLAVES OF CHRIST!

Rom 6:18.

Luke 17:10.

understand we have intimacy with Him, but HE IS STILL LORD AND MASTER

V16

GOD CHOSE US! WHY?

So that we would bear fruit, and ask the Father in His Name and RECEIVE

Rom 8:29-30.

v 17- He wants us to love as He is love.
